About the Trainer | Stephen Chew | Ministry of Intercessor

The journey into prophetic intercession began unexpectedly with a book — Good Morning, Holy Spirit by Benny Hinn — gifted to me while I was pursuing my studies overseas. What started as a quiet curiosity soon blossomed into a deep and personal encounter with the Holy Spirit. Through intentional times of reflection, meditation, and prayer, I began discerning God’s voice through Scripture, internal impressions, unfolding world events, and significant spiritual experiences.

One particularly profound moment occurred during a Sunday service amidst a broader Holy Spirit movement. As worship lifted, I received a vivid vision of Jesus walking down the church aisle carrying sweet-smelling flowers. The tangible presence of God descended upon the congregation, and I found myself overwhelmed — trembling, laughing, and weeping uncontrollably for hours. That encounter deeply marked my heart and ignited a lifelong pursuit of intimacy with the Holy Spirit.

The call to intercession gained clarity in the year 2000, upon returning home. A small group of believers gathered regularly to seek the Lord through worship and prayer. These gatherings became catalytic, as the Holy Spirit began to lead us into short-term mission trips — particularly to China. Without formal training in prophetic ministry at the time, we nonetheless witnessed the operation of spiritual gifts as we ministered to local believers and pre-believers alike. The Lord also taught us how to engage in spiritual warfare, as we discerned and prayed against the strongholds influencing particular regions.

Since then, I have served in a range of intercessory and prophetic ministries, partnering with God to minister to individuals, small groups, leaders, and churches both locally and abroad. These have included prophetic encouragement, spiritual mapping, and assignments that involved contending for breakthrough in specific territories or ministries — all birthed from the place of prayer.

Today, I remain committed to cultivating a lifestyle of intercession that is Spirit-led, biblically grounded, and anchored in love. Together with a few trusted friends, I help lead a small prophetic community dedicated to spiritual growth, equipping others in hearing God’s voice, and encouraging believers to walk more deeply in intimacy with God and clarity of purpose.

What to expect?

This session equips believers to deepen their relationship with God by cultivating a lifestyle of prayer that leads to intimacy, spiritual sensitivity, and prophetic awareness. Participants are guided to not only understand the importance of prayer but also how to recognize God’s voice, respond to His leading, and stand in the gap for others through intercessory prayer.

Key Themes Covered:

Knowing God’s Nature and Ways:
The session begins with a contrast between knowing God’s acts versus His ways (Psalm 103:7), inviting participants to pursue intimacy with God rather than simply seeking answers or outcomes.

Recognizing the Voice of God:
Using John 10:27, participants explore the different ways God speaks (e.g., Scripture, impressions, visions), emphasizing that discernment grows through relationship and spiritual maturity.

Jesus as Our Model of Prayer:
Jesus frequently withdrew to pray, modeling a lifestyle of communion with the Father. This underscores the need for intentional spiritual disciplines.

Intercessory Prayer Defined:
Prayer is presented as an act of love — standing in the gap for others and partnering with God to accomplish His purposes on earth.

The Role of Spiritual Gifts and Senses:
Participants are introduced to how spiritual gifts (like words of knowledge or prophecy) and spiritual senses (like seeing, hearing, or feeling in the spirit) can be activated during prayer.

•Love as the Filter for Revelation:
All prophetic or intercessory activity must be anchored in love, compassion, and responsibility. Revelation without love is ineffective and potentially harmful.

Interactive Elements:

Reflections and Group Prompts:
Throughout the session, participants engage in personal reflection, journaling, and group sharing to internalize their learning.

Activation Exercises:
Simple guided exercises help participants practice hearing from God for themselves and for others, creating a safe space to step into prophetic intercession.

This session builds on the foundation of prayer and intimacy with God, focusing on how prophetic revelation can be received, discerned, and expressed through intercession. Participants are invited to grow in spiritual sensitivity, steward prophetic words responsibly, and reflect God’s heart in all their intercessory ministry.

Key Themes Covered:

Soaking and Spiritual Sensitivity
Soaking prepares the heart to receive revelation by cultivating quiet attentiveness to God’s presence.

Nature and Purpose of Prophecy
Participants explore both foretelling (future events) and forthtelling (declaring God’s heart in the present), learning that all prophecy should encourage, comfort, and edify.

Discerning God’s Voice
Drawing from John 10:27 and 1 Thessalonians 5:20–21, the session teaches how to recognise God’s voice through Scripture, impressions, dreams, and inner witness — always tested and life-giving.

Keys to Sustaining Prophetic Revelation
Intimacy with God, expectation in faith, and love-filled responsibility are highlighted as essential foundations for receiving and stewarding prophetic insight.

Prophetic Protocols
Biblical protocols — being kind, positive, humble, and willing to have words tested — help ensure prophetic ministry is healthy, accountable, and aligned with God’s character.

Love as the Anchor
Revelation must always flow from love. Without it, prophetic words risk becoming distorted or harmful. Love governs both delivery and timing.

Interactive Elements:

Group Reflections and Journaling
Participants reflect personally on how they hear from God and how they discern what to do with it.

Activation Exercises
Participants engage in creative, Spirit-led practices such as receiving words for others through Scripture, objects, or biblical characters, and sharing them in a safe and respectful environment.
